Political Correctness (PC): the Enemy of Liberty and Common Sense

“Political correctness is just tyranny with manners.”--Charlton Heston

As I write this article, I am so disappointed in what I see; it’s like history is repeating itself on a more sophisticated level. The mainstream media (MSM) and the social architects are craftily spoon feeding a subtle form of slavery to the unsuspecting public; while the public begs for more. Meanwhile, your humble correspondent, BG, is being labeled as a kook, intolerant and pushy because I love liberty and hate to see people suffering unjustly. I am passionate about my beliefs in the Word of God, goodness and wholesomeness. But shouldn’t everyone else be passionate about liberty to some degree? I know that my heart is genuine and my motives are in the right place; but it is hard for me not to speak out when I know that the Wizard of Oz is behind the curtain fooling people. Political Correctness (PC) is the main culprit to this dilemma, and because the general public is either ignorant to what it is actually going on or not can be debated; all I know is that there must be an across-the-board awakening in this nation or we are going to suffer dire consequences.

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”—George Santayana

What experience and history teach is this — that people and governments never have learned anything from history, or acted on principles.”—George Wilhelm Hegel

We learn from history that we learn nothing from history.”—George Bernard Shaw

The Dangers of Political Correctness

First, it employs emotion, rather than reason and logic.

Although God did create our emotions for us to express ourselves, we are not supposed to use them all of the time. There is a time and a place for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1). For example, there is a time to think logically (left side of the brain); and a time to think creatively (right side of the brain). PC has taken reasoned debate and thought, and turned it into an emotional roller coaster where everyone is unnecessarily careful about the words, the tone and the references they use. Everything is offensive, and everyone wears their feelings on their sleeves. This type of behavior destroys intellectual conversation that deals with real issues. A free flow of communication never happens, and people spend more time trying to figure out how not to offend people, rather than putting substantive issues on the table, in order to find some viable solutions.

What do you think would have happened if the Biblical account in Mark 9:14-29 happened today? The Bible says that there was a “great multitude” of people around the disciples. When Jesus came to the disciples, one man asked Jesus to cast a demon out of his child since His disciples failed to do it. Personally, I would’ve been embarrassed if my boss commissioned me to do a job, and I failed to perform the job satisfactorily. Then, if my boss had to do the job for me in front of everyone would have been a true morale and confidence breaker. I would have gotten over it; but today, the some members of the Church would have sued Jesus for defamation of character, because His actions would have embarrassed someone and hurt their feelings. Sounds crazy, but this is the type of PC society in which we live; emotions and feelings rule the day. I respect the disciples because they were learning and they didn’t lose heart. It appears to have been an intimidating situation. But they obviously learned from the experience and moved forward, because they ended up doing many great things in the Book of Acts and beyond.

What do you think would have happened if the Biblical account of Acts 15:36-40 would have happened today? Paul and Barnabas were going on a second missionary journey. Barnabas wanted to take John Mark, but Paul didn’t want him to be included. Tempers flared to the point where John Mark and Paul had to be separated from one another to avoid a physical altercation. The resolution: Barnabas took John Mark with him, while Paul took Silas, and they went their separate ways. In 2008 PC, Paul would have been ostracized and rebuked before the entire congregation, silenced and told that he couldn’t serve for a while. After that, many Christians might have distanced themselves away from his ministry, and tried to blackball him. But since that didn’t happen, thank God Paul was able to write ¾ of the New Testament, even with his character flaws. We live in a different time, but we must always be people of principle and truth, and never have our decision making clouded by PC and irrational emotions.

What do you think would have happened if the Biblical account of Matthew 26:69-75 would have happened today? Peter denied that he knew Christ, and that he was one of His disciples. Today, people would have scandalized Peter’s name, and the MSM would have ran headlines like: “Witness for Christ Bears False Witness.” The PC MSM is masterful for building up and tearing down when it is convenient for the ratings. But they wouldn’t be able to get away with it if people didn’t tolerate it. I don’t necessarily blame the PC MSM, I more so blame the people. But thank God that Peter and the people got passed that, because he ended up being a great Apostle of the Lamb.

Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”-Eleanor Roosevelt

What about the recent sports story of a collegiate softball game between Western Oregon and Central Washington? In the second game of a doubleheader, Western Oregon’s, Sara Tucholsky, hit her first collegiate home run deep to centerfield. However, while rounding the bases she injured herself and was unable to get back on her feet. Two of Central Washington’s players, Liz Wallace and Mallory Holtman, demonstrated a true act of sportsmanship by carrying Sara around the bases to complete her at bat. If the Central Washington players were selfish and emotional, they would have just gotten mad because Western Oregon won the first game and was on their way to winning the second game. That would have been the emotional response, but they chose the reasonable response, and helped her to celebrate her success.

We have to always be reasonable, because PC and our emotions can always get the best of us if we let them. We can be up today and down tomorrow. Emotions are a means by which we express ourselves, but we have to know how to and when to properly express ourselves emotionally; otherwise, we can possibly do more damage than intended or necessary. PC is always a bad deal!

Second, it only allows us to see things purely on the surface, rather than the substantive roots of a matter.

There is a war on for our minds, and the people who run the system understand this very well. To give you a visual analogy, think of the earth as a chessboard, and humans as the various game pieces. The chess players (the powers that be) own the chessboard, the table, the chair, the house in which the game is being played, and unfortunately they own the game pieces, as well. The players of the game carefully strategize and calculate moves well into the future (maybe 3 or 4 moves ahead). They play simulated games to determine possible outcomes before the moves takes place, based upon human nature and past experiences. They extrapolate the information from various scenarios and they form or modify their agenda for the pieces on the chessboard. Did you catch that? If I may say so myself, that was a very succinct and accurate explanation for the events for our personal lives and for the world, at large. This explains the game in a nutshell, and PC won’t tell you this! PC will tell you this is absurd, because the explanation is deeper than what the PC promoters want you to know. So they will marginalize anyone with an alternative and more substantive thought, because there is an agenda at hand that doesn’t have your best interests at heart. If that isn’t true, then why are they always trying to sugar coat things? If the bridge is out, just tell me plainly and I won’t drive down that road!

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”-- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Politicians and most rich people are pawns in the game, as is the general public. Please don’t misunderstand, just because you have money doesn’t mean that you are free, and it doesn’t mean that you are a player in the game. This game is much larger than Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. These guys are not the chess players, but the PC promoters will tell you that they are. Let me give you something else to think about economically-speaking: in this world you are an investor, a manager, or a worker. Which are you? You can only be one, but you can be a higher version than others in your same group, i.e. an NBA player (a worker) makes a lot more money than a bus driver (a worker), but they are both still workers.

  • Investors finance industry and sectors of the economy. These people are the lifeblood of commerce. They make the most money, and they do the least amount of physical work. Everyone works for them, and they make all of the rules. Bankers, investors, investment firms, etc. fall into this category (less than 5% of the population).
  • Managers take the money and make commerce happen. They direct the way that business is conducted, and they make sure that systems and protocol are followed. This is where the million and billion dollar salaries are, but also the smaller, yet more sophisticated business owners are here, as well. Business owners, lawyers and other business professionals fall into this category (less than 15% of the population).
  • Workers make sure that everything that needs to get done in our society gets done. They control very little, provide a service and get a paycheck. Celebrities, entertainers, professional athletes, hot dog vendors, construction workers, teachers, etc. fall into this category (+/-80% of the population).

PC won’t tell you that this how things really work. But until people understand this simple breakdown, they will continue to think that they “have arrived” financially with their $300,000.00 home, two cars and maxed out credit cards. Look beneath the PC surface of how things work.

Third, it covers up the truth and makes an excuse for a lie.

In John 8:32, Jesus taught “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” That’s pretty simple and self-explanatory: there’s freedom in truth, and knowing truth will make you free. PC isn’t a fan of freedom, because PC has an agenda to enslave you. This may sound harsh, but just follow along and think about what you are reading. People can only have power over you if you let them dominate you, whether it’s physically, mentally or financially.

PC has been used in times past to makes excuses for irresponsible behavior, and rewarding it. For example, healthcare costs are going up and we have frivolous lawsuits being filed and won, because we live in a nation full of simpletons. People have lost the ability to think and use common sense, so if you: burn yourself with hot coffee, you can sue someone and get millions of dollars; if the dry cleaners misplaces your pants you can sue for tens of millions of dollars; if you willingly smoke cigarettes and get cancer you can sue and get a large settlement; and if you willingly eat unhealthy food, you can file a class action lawsuit on behalf of New York children claiming McDonald's food caused health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. How ridiculous is all of this? But this is the age of PC where no one wants to be responsible for their own actions. The media feeds PC to the general public, while the lawyers and the public relations people hype it all up.

This type of behavior enslaves you because you will never know how to stand on your own and be responsible. God has equipped us with what we need to be successful, with things like reason, truth and common sense. But if we let people strip us of these things then we are a willing accomplice to our own demise. I liken it to de-clawing a house cat and sending it into the wild. One of your main survival mechanisms has been removed and you’re expected to perform as if it was business as usual. No, we can’t and we shouldn’t allow ourselves to become the victims of their game.

Fourth, it confuses intellectual dialog.

While PC plays on emotion rather than logic and reason, it also creates a polarizing effect on meaningful discussion. Today, people are so much into PC and don’t want to offend people or groups. Hence, they have created monikers and false groupings to categorize people and their ideas. For example, if you ask serious questions about controversial topics then you are labeled as a conspiracy theorist; if you expose the wrong doings of the Democrats, you’re labeled as apart of the right wing attack machine; if you expose the similar wrong doings of the Republicans then you’re labeled as a socialist. This is truly insane, because things are what they are. If you are a socialist, then you are a socialist. A socialist isn’t a bad person, like being a rapist; it’s just an ideology. This labeling is all done to confuse people; I liken it to the communist agitators of the 1960’s who would protest and people wouldn’t know against whom the protesters were protesting. It would make you want to ask them, “Whose team are you on anyway?”

The name calling and labels is also a means to demonstrate that one cannot intelligently refute or support a principled argument; so the PC people resort to disinformation tactics, propaganda, marginalizing and name calling. Remember, the PC people rarely use reason and logic, and you can spot them very easily. They typically “parrot” some talking point or someone else’s thoughts, and if you take the conversation onto another path away from their comfort zone, they will get uncomfortable and start the disinformation and name calling.

Fifth, it dumbs down society to accept the status quo.

I read an article a few years ago about how school districts across the country have ended the traditional valedictorian award at the graduation services. It was done because the faculty and some of the families felt that school is becoming too competitive and can hurt a student’s self-esteem. This is to what we have been reduced, to a bunch of emotional softies who can’t recognize the difference between unhealthy competition and rewarding effort. Well if we follow this logic, then maybe all of our jobs should stop handing out yearly performance bonuses and raises. We don’t want to offend anyone. Right?

The fact is that life is full of examples rewarding a job well done. God rewards us with Heaven and treasures if we do a good job on the earth (The Parable of the Talents Matthew 25:14-30). Some service companies will reward you with a rebate or discount if you pay your bills on time. So, it is ridiculous for these school districts to rob these children of the opportunity to work hard, to achieve and to excel pass the status quo. I remember in high school I briefly considered wanting to go to Yale University because they had a pass/fail system, as opposed to A’s, B’s and C’s as grades. My logic said if 60% and above is passing, then why beat myself up to make a 90 or 100%? This was a part of my status quo thinking. But thank God I replaced that with a Biblical worldview. Many more of us need to change our perspective, as well, because PC will cripple you.

Our ignorance of history causes us to slander our own times.”—Gustave Flaubert

Look folks, we can’t skirt around the real issues of the day to the point where we miss the intent of what needs to be said. How is PC helping matters in our society? It isn’t helping, it is hurting. You can always tell someone the hardest truth, if it’s done from a loving and genuine heart. If we continue to do things according to PC, there is no guarantee that the audience will always receive the message in the manner that is conveyed. There is no guarantee that people will rightly grasp the message if we say it in love either, because Jesus was misunderstood, as well. But you can rest assured that if you do speak the truth in love, you will have a clean conscience of trying to genuinely inform people; and God will back you up. Would you appreciate it if your friend told you that something smells badly? Later, you find out that they were embarrassed to tell you that your breath was horrible, and you were talking to all of those strangers who smelled the nose hair burning scent.

Rather than offending the person cleaning your home by calling him/her a janitor or a maid, why not say that the person is an executive supervisor of domestic affairs and residences.”—BG

If you genuinely care about people, just be real and tell them if there is a problem. If we continue to sweep things under the rug, sugar coat rotten eggs, and dress pigs in three piece suits, then we are going to continue to fool ourselves. Jumping in an oven doesn’t turn you into a batch of biscuits, nor does calling me crazy mean that I am. The people must take a stand on this issue of PC, because it is hurting our society more than we realize. The MSM doesn’t care, because as long as the sponsors continue to advertise on their networks, then they will do whatever it takes to keep that money coming. They don’t care about you; to them, cash is king. But when the masses do nothing about this and other issues, then it is as though we are co-signing for our own destruction. Don’t shoot the messenger, but ponder the points that were made and make an informed and intelligent decision about how we should handle issues of importance. We should also keep in mind that there should be some repercussions for those who continue to perpetrate this injustice against us. Don’t just blow this off, because there are many issues that need to be addressed that aren’t because people are afraid of being labeled by the PC crowd. Go out there and make a difference. Live well!!
